Klosterbrauerei Weltenburg is the world's oldest monestary brewery. Nestled in the heart of Bavaria, it's home to 14 monks and abbot Thomas Maria Freihart - and, of course, produces a range of award-winning beers that are matured in the brewery's rock cellars that lie forty meters below ground. The mission of the brewery is to "preserve the tried and tested and promote progress", which in practice has resulted in a range of highly notable and distinctive beers that encapsulate the Bavarian lifestyle and traditional monastic art of brewing.
