In and around Cologne, Kölsch is the speciality of the region and the only beer in Europe to be protected by an “appellation controlée”, similar to that granted to Champagne. As the oldest Kölsch brewery in the world, Sünner Brauerei has been producing this characteristically light and easy-to-drink straw-coloured beer for six generations. More recently, it has added a range of Lager, Hefeweizen, Hircus and Malz beers, as well as sophisticated "limonades", which is the term used in Germany to describe any fruit-based non-alcoholic sparkling drink.
